RECLAIM Gorton Girls 2013

RECLAIM have started our third Gorton project! Over the next eight months, we’ll be working with young women in Gorton, to improve their self-confidence, help them find their voice, and help them make the changes they want to see in area.

We’ve already had Conference week, where the Girls meet their mentors and RECLAIM staff for the first time, and establish what they want to get out of the next eight months, and the girls have written an incredible Manifesto.

YP+

On Thursday 28th February, RECLAIM launched it’s latest project – YP+.

YP+ is the online hub for Manchester’s positive young people. Whether you’re an artist, a volunteer, a film-maker, an entrepreneur, a carer for a friend or relative we want to hear your story, big or small.

We worked with Manchester City Council, Manchester City Football Club, and MCFC’s community outreach charity City in the Community, to put on a prestigious launch event where some of Manchester’s most influential residents met with RECLAIM staff and a small selection of the young people on YP+. Our guest of honour was World Cup-winning footballer Patrick Vieira, who works with some of the city’s most talented and dedicated young people as MCFC’s Football Development Executive.

We’d like to thank everyone who came to the launch for attending and showing their support for Manchester’s positive young people.

Salford Sports Weekend

Another packed weekend for the Salford Boys. On a wintry weekend at Fit City Ordsall, we invited the boys and their mentors to work with the Manchester United Foundation to learn new and transferable football coaching skills – and also work together as a team to compete against the Foundation’s up-and-coming stars. You can see some of the action on our new Flickr page.

Thanks to Kieran and Chris from the United Foundation for working with us, and we hope to see you again soon!

RECLAIM on Women’s Hour

Sinead and Frances, two young women from our very first Girls project in 2008, appeared on the programme four years ago – last week, they were on again, alongside RECLAIM Patron Arlene McCarthy MEP, to discuss the changes they’ve seen in their lives, the achievements they’ve worked for, and how RECLAIM is still changing lives in 2013.

RE:VERB – Hacienda Re:Tuned

RE:VERB have worked hard to play at some of the most prestigious and exclusive venues in Manchester, had the chance to work with internationally renowned musicians and producers, and now are preparing to release their second album. They’ve been working with Manchester music and musicians, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to rework classic Hacienda tracks for a new generation.

RE:VERB will be launching their album alongside a brand new website. Until then, here’s a video of their single, City Sights!

RECLAIM Salford Boys

RECLAIM have started their first-ever project in Salford! Over the next eight months, we’ll be working with young men in Salford, to improve their self-confidence, help them find their voice, and see how they want to improve their area. This week is Conference week, where the boys meet their mentors and RECLAIM staff for the first time, and establish what they want to get out of the next eight months.

Soon, we’ll be working with Salford Reds, the Manchester United Foundation, the Lowry, and Media City to fulfill their leadership potential.

RECLAIM Visits European Parliament

On the 14th and 15th of November, RECLAIM were given the opportunity to bring 15 young people to visit the European Parliament in Brussels, courtesy of Arlene McCarthy MEP. Our young people met with Arlene, as well as Michael Cashman MEP and Emine Bozkurt MEP, and were given the chance to put their questions, on a diverse range of topics, to them. We would like to say thank you to Arlene, Michael, Emine and their assistants for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with us, and for offering our young people the chance to visit a fascinating new city.

Goodbye Kemi and Tasha

Kemi and Tasha have left RECLAIM after three years of working together. During their time at RECLAIM, they created a new charity called RE-FORMED, working to deter young people in the North-West from negative outcomes.

They first contacted us in 2009, and worked directly with RECLAIM young people on the project as outreach officers.

We wish them all the best.

Wythenshawe Boys Begins

RECLAIM have started a new project in Wythenshawe. Designed to fulfill the leadership potential of boys aged 13 and 14 from a group of secondary schools in Wythenshawe. After the success of our Wythenshawe Girls project, we’re looking forward to going back into the community and building the future leaders of Manchester where they’re needed most!
